Welcome to the Premiere Edition of James Gunn’s Ad Astra

One year ago, this journal was a coffee shop conversation among inspired students of the Center for the Study of Science Fiction’s Summer Writers’ Retreat. Today, after many more gatherings, a lot of calls to IT, and the agonizing job of choosing from among many wonderful submissions, we are proud to publish our first issue of James Gunn’s Ad Astra.

What we hope you will find here is something that will make you think a little harder about how we communicate as a culture, and how that impacts us both individually and corporally. Maybe one of these stories will make you listen differently to a friend from another culture, or even your own children. Maybe a poem will inspire you to look a little harder for messages from space. Maybe you’ll wonder more deeply about how the stories we tell are a reflection of our past and an understanding of our human future.

At the very least, we hope you enjoy your visit to James Gunn’s Ad Astra!
